How to Pick the Best River Rafting Tour in the Canadian Rockies
A summer trip to the Canadian Rockies isn’t complete without experiencing white water river rafting! With so many different companies to choose from, it can be hard to know which rafting tour is best for you and your group. If you’re staying in Canmore or Banff, Alberta, one of the best places to go rafting, is nearby Kananaskis Country. K-Country is a recreation region made up of a collection of provincial parks and nature reserves.
The White Wolf Rafting Difference
Being a newer rafting company, we pride ourselves on being not only different but better. This is what you can expect when you choose one of one our tours. You’ll check in at our spacious office and retail store in downtown Canmore on 10th Street where you’ll have an opportunity to change into your swimsuit. The tour starts with an intro orientation and everything you need is included & it’s all new equipment – this includes a wetsuit, waterproof boots, splash jacket, lifejacket, helmet and paddle
Once we’re all ready to go, it’s onto our comfortable school bus which transports you to the put-in point by Barrier Lake where your River Guide will meet you. You’ll get your photo taken by a professional photographer before and during your tour, BONUS you get free copies at the end of your tour, which is not the norm for most companies.
Finally, one of the biggest differences between White Wolf Rafting tours and the other guys, is that our tours are smaller and more intimate, offering a more “boutique” experience. For example, we often only have a handful of rafts which means more time on the river having fun surfing the waves and playing raft games at the end, aka going for a swim. Our guides love to share their stories of adventure and provide a memorable experience.
Best River Raft Tour for Beginners
Our Kananaskis River Adventure Tour is perfect for anyone new to rafting, or those looking for a more mellow experience. This tour provides the perfect balance of fun and thrills, without being too scary for the first-timers in your group, or too boring for the more experienced rafters. Suitable for non-swimmers kids aged 5+, we also get plenty of grandparents! With rapids graded 2-3 this section of the river provides some really fun waves combined with some relaxing float time, all while surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountains. This tour runs daily at 12:30pm.
Best River Raft Tour for the More Adventurous
Our Horseshoe Canyon Tour is ideal for thrill seekers who want to ride the biggest rapids in the Bow Valley. With grade 3-4 rapids, this tour is suitable for ages 12+ with swimming skills. Horseshoe Canyon offers the excitement of bigger waves and surf with the addition of a couple of opportunities to cliff jump into the glacial river! This tour runs daily at 8am.
Whichever river rafting tour you decide to book while visiting Canmore or Banff, we hope you have lots of FUN out on the river.
